5 More Reasons Why You Matter

I wrote a post a while back on 5 Reasons Why You Matter. You matter because:handsworld

  • You are valuable to God
  • You have something you can teach to others
  • You can help others
  • You have the capacity to love
  • You have the ability to influence others

Each one of us matters in eyes of God. We were created to make an impact in the lives of those around us.

I recently went on a mission trip to Los Angeles where we served on Skid Row. One homeless man said to us, “Welcome to the worst streets on the planet.”

The worst environments bring out the wretched in human nature: abuse, madness, addictions, vulgarity…but even in the lowest of places, God doesn’t let us go. He doesn’t let us go because we matter.

Here are 5 MORE reasons why YOU MATTER:

1. To Be Passionate: We all have gifts and talents. We all have certain things that interest us.

Passion is the fuel that drives us.SONY DSC

Passion and determination lifts us out of the ordinary.

We rise above the average when we have a passion for something. Without passion, the world would be dull and uninteresting.

When we are passionate about something we inspire others. We touch the lives of others with our passion and we can inspire others to create passion and determination in their own lives.

2. To Bring Joy: Everyday you have the capability to bring joy into the lives of those around you. You also have the capability to bring misery and unhappiness. You have a choice in how you present yourself to others.

Do you regularly complain?

Are you snarky?

Do you treat service people rudely because you think they’re beneath you?

I was recently in a public bathroom where an employee was changing the trash bag. I patiently waited for her to finish. When I threw in my paper towel I smiled and told her thank you. I could have been impatient and then ignored her while throwing in my trash. But I chose to smile and give her my thanks for cleaning a bathroom that I used.

Make the choice to bring joy to others–even if you believe they are undeserving of it.

3. To Experience Life’s Lessons: Life comes with challenges and adversity. There’s no way around it. Some of the challenges we face are the result of our own doing. Some of them are the result of things done to us. And unfortunately, some of them are the result of living in a fallen world.

Challenges change and shape us. We experience growth and our skills are sharpened during times of challenge.pottery

Challenges and adversity can also create bitterness and hopelessness.

“Fractures well cured make us more strong.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

In times when we find ourselves broken and facing adversity we need healing in order to allow positive growth and change to occur.

God often places people in our lives to help us through those times. Once you’ve walked through your own challenges you then can allow God to use you to help others.

4. There Are People Who Need You: There are 7 billion people on this planet and there are a handful of people who need YOU. Those people may be your children, your family, your neighbors, your church, your friends…even if you live an isolated life and haven’t reached out to anyone before–it’s never too late to do so.

There is always a need to be met and YOU can meet it. Never underestimate the power one person can have on the life of someone else.

5. To Be An Example: Everyone needs someone to look up to. We don’t need people who are perfect, but people who are willing to be real and open about their life’s journey.

We need to look to people who aren’t all talk and show, but to those are making a true effort to live a God honoring life.

YOU can be an inspiring, positive example to someone.

“We love because He first loved us.” ~1 John 4:19

    Hi Yolanda,
Once again, you are sharing wisdom and common sense on the Spotlight.
I am tired of other people pusing their products and services on Spotlight but I very much welcome your messages of inspiration. I think I read this before but this time around, after my life changing over the past six months, your words of five reasons made them more relative.

    Thank you again Yolanda,
